Mangrove Afforestation & Nature-Based Systems Shield Southern Bay of Bengal
Community-led coastal greenbelts have restored hundreds of hectares of natural tidal barriers, shielding riverbanks against storm surges and tidal inundation.
By mobilizing women-led nursery collectives along the coastal belt, Friendship’s nature-based adaptation projects have restored extensive mangrove buffers. These coastal forests not only dampen storm surge velocities during seasonal cyclones but also restore aquatic breeding grounds for local artisanal fishers.
