Friendship Launches $50M Climate Resilience Initiative in Brahmaputra Char Islands

A landmark five-year climate adaptation fund announced in Dhaka to scale solar electrification, disaster-adapted schools, and floating health clinics across vulnerable shifting river islands.

Dhaka, Bangladesh — Friendship NGO has officially announced a catalytic $50 million frontline climate adaptation programme targeting ultra-vulnerable riverine communities in the northern Jamuna and Brahmaputra deltas.

The comprehensive initiative scales up tested, community-owned interventions across four interconnected pillars: floating healthcare services, solar-powered community micro-grids, plinth-raised homestead clusters, and sustainable livelihoods designed to survive extreme flooding events.

Speaking at the launch, Friendship Founder Runa Khan emphasized that direct climate funding to frontline organizations is essential to achieving enduring delta stability.
